Summertime Activities for Kids Under 10

Summer is around the corner, and you might have already made plans for your kids' summer vacation. It is also the time for holidays, and the kids will be expecting something special planned for them. While kids older than 10 typically prefer to take care of themselves and spend time with their own group of friends, the kids that are below 10 years of age easily get bored with so much free time on their hands. Consequently, they end up causing trouble either for the parents or themselves in some way or the other. To ensure that they are occupied, here is a compilation of the popular summertime activities for kids under 10.

Water Games

Summer is the right time for water games and you can let your kids indulge in such games as much as you want without the fear of health repercussions. Although you still have to keep in mind the safety factor since kids have a habit of finding trouble in the most unlikely of places. An inflatable pool (or a baby pool) is a great pastime for kids. You can let them play games like catch and Frisbee in the inflatable pool.

Creative Activities

There are a number of creative activities where you can involve your kids under the age of 10 years during summer time. These activities not only help your kids in passing time and having fun but also compel them to use their mental abilities. This improves the creativity and thinking ability of your child. Some of the activities that your kids can participate in are origami, painting, drawing, and reading as well as acting out stories. The advantage of these types of activities is that they require minimum investment and they can be done within the confines of your home where you can keep a close eye on your kids.

Lemonade Stall

Another innovative way of giving back something to the neighborhood and having fun is by setting up a lemonade stall. Make sure that everything from the banner to the lemonade is prepared by your kids, with your supervision of course. The proceeds generated from the stall can go into your kids' piggy bank. This activity will not only give them a sense of accomplishment and let them have fun but also teach your kid some life values like the importance of hard work. Just remember that the tax man is always watching, so you may need to be prepared to fend him off.

Baking Cookies

There's no better treat for a hungry kid than some delicious chocolate-chip cookies and a glass of milk. Since kids love their cookies, they will be naturally curious about how it is prepared. When you are making cookies, call you kids in and involve them in activities like kneading the dough, shaping the cookies, and sprinkling the chocolate chips, this will please them endlessly. Then of course the kids will love eating cookies that they feel they have prepared. You can even call their friends over for a cookie and milk party, and give your kid the bragging rights of having baked the best cookies in the neighborhood.

Camping Trips

Summer is the best time to take your kid on camping trips. Irrespective of whether your kid will grow up and love to like the outdoors or not, camping is a great pastime and a learning curve in every kid's life. You can do some research online and come up with a list of possible camping sites that are relatively safe as well. To increase the fun factor, talk to the parents of your kid's classmates and plan a trip that includes most of your kid's friends. This will make the camping trip all the more fun and memorable for your kid.
